The Alaskan Malamute is a very special breed of dog and our dogs are no exception. Alaskan Malamutes require a lot of proper care. Our sires are Alaskan Malamute dogs that are from 90 lbs up to 120lbs in weight currently. There are some misconceptions about what makes a giant Alaskan malamute. I guess "legally" anything over 75 pounds (in a Malamute female) and 95 pounds (in a Malamute male) is considered a giant. However, a true giant Alaskan Malamute is a minimum of 140lbs and is at least 29 inches at the shoulder. Therefore, when people are told that a breeder can produce giant Alaskan Malamutes that does not mean that every dog out of that litter will be giants. A giant Malamute puppy should be at least 12 lbs at 6 weeks old, a standard size Alaskan Malamute puppy should be 7 lbs to 11lbs. Alaskan Malamute Breeders code of Ethics I believe there is a strong misconception about what is required to be considered an ethical Alaskan Malamute dog breeder. It is definitely more than simply "putting two malamutes together and having Alaskan Malamute puppies. Any Malamute breeder of this sort, will not even pick up, let alone READ a book about the very breed of dog they intend to profit from. As for Candy Rock Kennels, if I discover that I am having a particular problem with Malamute health, the very first thing I will do is to begin researching and reading as much as I can about the Alaskan Malamutes and the health concerns they may face if its something I have not encountered before. There is more involved than simply creating puppies, and relying on your personal veterinarian to correct problems that are a direct result of uneducated breeding practices. I personally believe that within our disposable society, too many people have accepted this attitude in regards to their breeds. I found that personally, I can care properly for two Alaskan Malamute litters at a time.
